Pass the fry bread, please.

It occurs to me that I’d be quite remiss if I didn’t give a fry bread recipe after saying that it should be served with the green chili stew.

Fry Bread

2 c flour
1 t salt
3 t baking powder
1 c water
1 T shortening

vegetable oil

Mix ingredients together and let rest for 15 minutes. (This means you, Harkness!) While dough is resting, heat a couple inches of vegetable oil in fryer pan, until real hot.

Break off a golf ball sized ball of dough and roll out 1/4″ thick.

Test the oil by dropping a piece of dough in the oil, if it immediately rises to the top. Fry until light golden brown, turn once to brown both sides.

Drain bread on a paper towel to remove excess oil. Enjoy.
